Instagram has introduced new analytics metrics that include share rate and skip rate percentages for Reels, , as per a recent carousel post by Instagram.

These two metrics directly indicate how content is resonating. Views-over-time tracking is also now available, helping creators gauge content longevity.

Skip rate refers to the percentage of viewers who scroll past the Reel. It is an important metric to analyze the retention capacity of the hook. Share rate indicates the percentage of shares a particular Reel has garnered, while views over time is a chronological graph of viewership of a Reel. With Instagram’s new analytics metrics 2026, the revamped Insights interface offers easy accessibility to creators.

The updated layout introduces a tabbed format, putting critical metrics front and centre on the main Insights page. Creators can now quickly view engagement activity and audience demographics. They will essentially avoid going through multiple screens due to this update.

New analytics metrics for better hooks

Creators can now easily monitor skip rates and refine hook strength in the first few seconds. The quality of the hook is measurable and weak hooks will register on the Instagram Insights dashboard as an increased skip rate. With such analytical tools at their disposal, creators will be able to assess the data of skit rate to come up with more effective hooks.

They can also track share rates to identify which content formats drive organic reach. The updated Insights currently exclude collab posts, trial reels, cross-posted content and boosted posts, the Instagram post noted.

Instagram updates AI video toolkit in Edits

Instagram has also integrated AI video generation directly into its Edits app. This will enable creators to produce video clips from text prompts, photos or existing footage. No recording will be required.

As per Instagram’s help center (https://help.instagram.com/1257265153195591/), “Enter a description of the clip you want to generate. If you want to add photos or videos from your camera roll, tap [the plus icon and select] any photos or videos.”

For creators, this removes a significant production barrier. Those working solo or on tight budgets can now ideate and publish faster, testing content concepts without investing in shoots. It is particularly useful for B-roll, concept visualisations and experimental formats.

These Instagram updates reflect the platform’s broader push to make content creation more data-driven and production-friendly. Enhanced metrics’ interface and AI-powered video tools on Edits lower the barrier for creators at every level, making strategising and execution simpler and easily accessible.

How creators should act on these insights

Creators can use these new analytics metrics to breakdown hook strength per Reel. Tracking sharing rates helps in understanding the organic reach of the content. The former shows the quality of content at entry point whereas the latter reflects content relatability at the exit point.

The new Edits toolkit is Instagram’s attempt at making the platform a self-contained one with less dependence on third party apps, such as CapCut, for video and photo editing.

The Instagram new analytics metrics 2026 and the AI video integration in Edits mark a meaningful shift in how the platform supports creators by giving them a competitive edge with real-time measurable data.
